Alu Comp One

Inspired by the aesthetics of tennis rackets from the late 60s like the iconic Wilson T2000 I understood designing this tennis racket as an excercise in formalaesthetic design and manufacturing with the only limitation, as well as the main challenge being the manufacturing possiblities in the workshop. Specifically, I asked myself how to join two metal sheets to make a stiff yet pliable racket. Inspried by Fachwerkhäuser, sheering forces are diverged by the joining components of the aluminium sheets. Add the hand-edged flange, as well as material thickness. Bending forces at the handle are distributed through the use of a 3D-printed extension inlay. This design process resulted in there being two prototypes, one being lighter, the other being more stable due to construction. Aside from the construction there were also design chances for accessories, ergonomics and personalization.
